The Gnu Generation

Free software is a decades-old idea, dating back to the beginning of electronic computing.  Computer programmers would often share the source code to their operating systems and applications.  And each would build upon the efforts of the others.

Today, a lot of software distributed under restrictive licenses, limiting your rights to use it or share it.  Free (as in freedom) software can be shared and changed.  The next best thing to Free software is Open Source.  Read about both.

Free Software and the Techentin Network

This website is constructed using Concrete5, which is an amazing open source content management system, backed by the MySql databases on Linux server.  (My favorite Linux is Ubuntu, by the way.)  The Scouting sites are driven by Joomla, which powers 2.7% of the web.

Web Hosting

Web hosting companies have come a long way over the last few years, and offer many services for very reasonable prices.  The Techentin Network uses HostGator.
